Your COVID-19 Vaccine Questions Answered
Vaccinating people against COVID-19 is our best hope of stopping the deadly pandemic and being able to return to normal activities. Getting the vaccine helps your body build immunity to the virus, greatly reducing the chances that you’ll get sick.
When can I get the COVID-19 vaccine? Virginia is currently in Phase 1A of vaccine distribution, immunizing healthcare personnel and long-term care facility residents. A timeline has not yet been announced for the next phase, which includes people 75 and older and essential frontline workers. See the Virginia vaccination dashboard.
Do I have to get the vaccine? The vaccine is not required for Virginians, but the Virginia Department of Health urges everyone who’s eligible to get it. Learn about the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Is the vaccine safe? COVID-19 vaccines have gone through a careful, multi-phase trial process to ensure safety, and adverse effects have been rare.
