Bowling Green Reopens TODAY

Posted by awade on

BOWLING GREEN BRANCH REOPENING

Good morning everyone!

I’m glad to finally be able to say that all Caroline County Library branches are now open to the public! The Bowling Green branch reopens today, Monday, May 3rd. Like the Dawn and Ladysmith branches, they will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Citizens will be expected to comply with state and local safety guidelines, including social distancing and wearing masks when inside library branches.

Although the vaccination clinics have moved to the Dominion Raceway for the most part, there will still be a few days that Bowling Green will need to close when they return to the Community Services Center. The closures will not affect service at the other library branches. The branch will be closed on Monday, May 17th and Monday, June 14th. These dates are subject to change so please check our website or Facebook page for the latest updates.

As a reminder, please note the following reopening safety measures:

What to Expect When We Reopen:

  • Plexiglas dividers at circulation desks
  • Social distancing markers on the floor
  • Hand sanitizer stations around the library
  • All staff wearing masks
  • Fewer computer stations available in our computer labs

We’ll also be continuing curbside pickup and the three-day quarantine of all returned materials.

What We’re Asking from You:

  • Please maintain a minimum of 6 feet between you and other patrons and library staff.
  • All patrons over the age of 5 must wear a cloth face covering when inside the library. If you cannot or choose not to wear a mask, we ask that you please use our curbside service or call to make special arrangements for computer use.
  • Call your local branch to make an appointment to use our computers. We cannot guarantee that a computer will be available unless you have an appointment.
  • If you have any library items out, now is the time to return them!  However, you won’t be able to return library books at the circulation desk.  Please use the outside book drops or other designated return containers.
  • Hold on to any items you wish to donate to the library.  We won’t be accepting donations until later in our reopening process.

We look forward to seeing you back in the library soon!

The Caroline County Library is glad to announce that several of our branches will reopen their doors beginning on Thursday, April 1st!  The Dawn and Ladysmith branches will reopen on the 1st for the hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.  The Port Royal library will reopen on Monday, April 5th with its normal Monday through Thursday hours.  Patrons will be expected to comply with state and local safety measures, including social distancing and wearing masks when inside library branches.

At this time, the Bowling Green branch will remain curbside only due to the vaccination clinics taking place in the Community Services Center.

What to Expect When We Reopen:

  • Plexiglas dividers at circulation desks
  • Social distancing markers on the floor
  • Hand sanitizer stations around the library
  • All staff wearing masks
  • Fewer computer stations available in our computer labs

AARP Tax Preparation Canceled

Posted by awade on

Good Morning,

We are very sorry to inform you that due to circumstances beyond their control, AARP will not be providing free tax preparation at the library this year. We understand how important this service is for our patrons and community. To help fill this need we are currently putting together a list of locations still providing this service and once this list is complete we will post it on our website. We hope to be able to offer this service again in 2022.

We would also like to remind you that the library will be closed on Monday, February 15th in honor of Presidents’ Day. WiFi will be available in the Bowling Green, Dawn, and Ladysmith parking lots; login information is posted on the doors to these buildings.

Thank you for your understanding,

Megan Upshaw

AARP Tax Preparation

Posted by awade on

Good morning everyone,

We are aware of a recent article in the Free Lance Star about AARP tax preparation at the Bowling Green branch.  Unfortunately, a miscommunication at the AARP office resulted in incorrect information being published.  At this time, no dates have been set for tax preparers to be in the library nor are we taking any appointments.  We also have not been provided with tax packets or any other paperwork to give out to patrons.  Once we are able to reopen our buildings to the public, we should have more information on when the packets will be available and when we’ll be able to start making appointments.  We encourage everyone to check out our website and Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.

Thank you for your continued support as we try to navigate these uncertain times.

February 2, 2021

Posted by awade on

Good morning everyone!

I hope that your 2021 is going well and that you’re staying safe!  The library is continuing to provide curbside service at our Bowling Green, Dawn, and Ladysmith branches.  Feel free to call your local branch for more information.

Here are some updates about what’s going on at Caroline County Library!

Thank you Caroline Chapter of the NAACP and DentaQuest!

I’d like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Caroline County Chapter of the NAACP and DentaQuest for sponsoring our Storytime and STEAM to go kits this fall and winter.  With their help we were able to create over 600 kits for the kids of Caroline County.  There are still a few left so call your local branch for curbside pickup.

Starting in February, we’ll be offering new STEAM kits each month, also sponsored by these two great organizations.  While these new kits won’t include a free book, each month will have a theme and a fun project for either younger or older kids.  February’s theme is Shadow Science.  Call your branch for availability.

AARP Tax Preparation

IRS-trained volunteers with the AARP have been preparing to offer their free tax preparation services at the Bowling Green branch, but these plans have been put on hold because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  We are unable to make any appointments at this time.  Please check back in a few weeks by calling the Bowling Green branch at 804-633-5455 or visiting our website and Facebook page for any updates.

We appreciate your patience and support!
