Good morning everyone!
I hope you all are doing well and staying safe! I wanted to pop into your inboxes to let you know of a few updates and reminders from the library.
Due to new research on how long COVID-19 will last on library materials like book covers and DVD cases, we will be increasing our quarantine period for all returned items to one week. This should help protect both staff and patrons and stop any potential spread of this virus. Check-in dates will reflect the date that the materials were retrieved from the book drop, and no fines will be charged for any days spent in quarantine.
RBDigital, one of our databases for e-books, audiobooks, and magazines, was recently purchased by OverDrive. Over the coming weeks, those materials found on RBDigital will be transitioning to the OverDrive platform. Once the transition is complete, the RBDigital platform will be discontinued. If you’re currently using this service, we encourage you to check out OverDrive on our website- https://carolinelibrary.org/e-resources-2/read/. There are also the OverDrive or Libby apps that you can use on your e-readers or other mobile devices. Be sure to login using your library card number and PIN to see everything that’s available.
On September 30th, Gale Career Transitions will be retired and replaced by Gale Presents Peterson’s Career Prep. This new database will have many of the same features as Career Transitions, but is more user-friendly and includes job searching features that integrate with Indeed.com. If you’ve saved your résumé to Career Transitions, make sure that you save a copy to your personal computer or a flash drive before the 30th!
If you haven’t done it already, there are still a few days left to fill out your 2020 Census! The deadline to file is September 30th. A complete count determines fair funding for Caroline’s libraries, schools, fire departments, and other crucial resources. Check out https://my2020census.gov/ to fill out your census questionnaire or find more information.
Although the library has been reopened for more than two months, we are still in Phase 3 of the governor’s reopening plan. This means that we will remain at our limited hours for the time being. Here are a few other reminders of our Phase 3 services:
• All returns should be placed in book drops outside of the library. Materials will not be accepted inside the branches.
• Donations are not accepted at any library branches. There is not a good way to disinfect books and other materials without damaging them at this time. Please hold on to your donations or feel free to donate them to another organization.
• Services like notary and one-on-one computer help are still not available unless it can be done in a socially distant manner.
• Seating inside the library is extremely limited or not available because of social distancing requirements. Call ahead to your branch if you’re not sure if tables are available.
Have a great week!
